Together, Doug Stephens, Tina Clarke and Bick Corsa have designed a simple, integrated, high-performance dwelling. Like all of the Challenge participants this house will leverage the benefits of a super insulation regimen against the contributions of renewable energy systems to strike a balance and hopefully achieve zero energy. But the most distinguishing feature of this house is the combined vision Stephens, Clarke and Corsa have of creating this home as a teaching and public education tool that models all aspects of sustainable building.
Greenfield Community College is a partner in using the house as an educational tool with plans for educational programs for both builders and students.
In addition, the green building instructor at the Franklin Regional Technical High School is planning to use the house to help educate his students in “green jobs”/green building techniques. Information about these courses can be found at: http://www.gcc.mass.edu/media/docs/cg/community_ed.pdf.
