For its entry in the Zero Energy Challenge RDI will build upon its experience from constructing other near zero energy homes. The home will feature a compact foot print, a super insulation strategy, a 3.42 kW PV system, a solar thermal domestic hot water system feeding an on-demand water heater and a mix of high efficiency windows for south and north orientations. Additionally the house will employ a single space heater and a unique ventilation system to satisfy all HVAC requirements of the home. This house will be LEED certified and is one of the two single family attached homes or duplexes, competing in the challenge.
